What Is a Drug & Alcohol Evaluation?
A drug and alcohol evaluation is a professional assessment that helps determine whether a person has a substance use problem and what level of support, if any, they may need. It’s commonly required by courts, employers, the DMV, or probation—especially after incidents like a DUI or drug-related charge.
During the evaluation, a licensed provider will ask questions about your substance use history, mental and physical health, and any legal or social issues. You may also complete brief questionnaires or screenings. The process is confidential, respectful, and typically takes 90-120 minutes.
The evaluator then writes a report with findings and, if needed, recommendations—such as education classes, outpatient treatment, or no action at all.
It’s not about judging you—it’s about helping you meet your legal or personal requirements and giving you clarity about your situation.
